Mavis Staples and the Iran situation

Someone knows their protest music. Great mash-up of Mavis Staples’ stunning We Shall Not Be Moved with images of the unrest in Iran.

Bin Laden's son wants to live in England

Omar bin Laden and his British wife, Zaina al Sabah bin Laden, pictured during an interview in CairoI know he's got to live somewhere and I know you can't choose your family or lineage etc. etc. but why on earth would Osama Bin Laden's son even want to think about living in England?  Apparently he is prepared to go to the highest court in Europe to get a visa to move to England with his British-born wife, Zaina al Sabah bin Laden, or Jane Felix-Brown as she is known to her mother.

It would be tabloid editor's birthday, Christmas and lottery win rolled-up together - terrorism, race, immigration, what's-he-doing-shacking-up-with-a-52-year-old-grandmother, all in one - at least it take the heat off Heather Mills and the McCanns for a while!

Bleeding obvious quote-of-the-week came from Mrs B-L's interview on GMTV  on Monday when she said her husband, Omar, had passed all the necessary immigration tests, but said she was "99%" sure his application would be rejected because his father was the boss of al-Qaida.

Really?

Violent Crime in Lightwater

Image of suspectI think the whole village of Lightwater was shocked by the cowardly knife-attack on the local branch of Thresher's the other week and I think I speak for many when I say how relieved I was that Chris and his staff and family appear to have come through the ordeal relatively unscathed.

The attack was caught on CCTV - here's a still of the attacker - and was shown on the BBC's Crimewatch programme last week. If you didn't see it and think you may be able to help here are the details and a copy of the rather gruesome CCTV footage.

On a slightly lighter note, judging by the way Chris went about his would-be attacker, I'll think twice about complaining about a corked bottle of wine in future!
